How Zooq handles data, payments, and compliance.

Is this legal?

Yes. Zooq provides programmatic access to publicly available professional data. Under U.S. case law (hiQ Labs v. LinkedIn, 9th Circuit 2022, and Meta Platforms, Inc. v. Bright Data Ltd., N.D. Cal. 2024), accessing publicly available data is generally permitted.

  • We do not ask you to connect a LinkedIn account.
  • We do not create fake accounts or use member logins.
  • We do not access private or logged-in-only data.
  • We do not retain the data we return to you on your behalf.

You are responsible for using the data in compliance with the laws applicable to you, including GDPR (EU), CASL (Canada), and your local marketing and data-protection regulations. You are also responsible for honoring opt-out requests from individuals whose data you process.

We give you the tooling. You own the use case.

Data we do store

  • Your account email, name (if provided), and password hash.
  • SHA-256 hashes of your API keys (never the keys themselves).
  • Per-request metadata: endpoint, status, credits spent, timing, IP.
  • Payment records and credit balance.

Payments

Payments are processed by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar handles card processing, global VAT/GST/sales tax in 100+ countries, tax-compliant invoicing, refunds, and chargebacks. We never see your full card number — only the last four digits and a vaulted token Polar holds on your behalf.
